Dogs bond primarily with people; cats bond with people and territory. Removing a cat from their territory is, for most cats, a significant stressor in itself — unfamiliar smells, sounds, other animals nearby. That's why the default answer for cats is different than for dogs.

• Very long absences where daily visits aren't enough company for your particular cat

Choose a cattery with individual units, ask about vaccination requirements (a good sign!), and visit before you book.

• One-on-one attention. Play and cuddles tailored to your cat, not divided among dozens of boarders.
• No exposure to unfamiliar animals or illnesses.
• Your home is safer too — plants watered, post collected, presence simulated.

3. How do you store my keys? (Answer should be: coded, never with your address.)
4. Will you send updates every visit?
5. What happens in an emergency?
